TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Lecturer

German Department, Princeton University. 2006-present           

German 101 & 102 – Beginners’ German I and II.

German 1025 – Beginner-Intermediate Intensive. Course combines German 102 and German 105 in one semester.

German 105 – Intermediate German.

German 107 – Advanced German. German 107 culminates the four-semester language curriculum with Kafka's Die Verwandlung.

German 207 –  Society, Politics and Culture in Germany 1890-1945.  Composed teaching materials including lectures, assignments and audio-visual materials; composed, administered and evaluated oral and written assessments.  Selected primary and secondary reading materials.  German 207 is the first course following the language sequence and introduces students to political and cultural topics. Conducted in German.

German 101R & German 102R – Beginners’ German I and II for Graduate Students. Designed a hybrid course for the specific needs of graduate students to conduct research in German and live in a German-speaking environment as they carry out their research.  Selected primary and secondary textual and multi-media materials from a wide range of fields, including literature, theology, philosophy, art history and science.

Graduate Summer Reading Course.  The Summer Reading Course provides in just six weeks a comprehensive overview of German grammar, preparing graduate students from a wide range of fields for research in German.  Selected primary and secondary reading materials from a wide range of fields, including literature, theology, philosophy and art history.

German 503: Intermediate German for Academic Reading. Designed a course for graduate students who aim to improve their reading fluency in order to conduct research in German. This course is a continuation of the Graduate Summer Reading Course. Designed syllabus and classroom materials. Selected primary and secondary textual and multi-media materials from a wide range of fields, including literature, theology, philosophy, art history and science.

der|die| das is an interactive online textbook developed by Prof. James Rankin for use in University German courses. My responsibilities include:

  • Composition and editing of original textual and audio-visual materials using Adobe Creative Suite and iMovie

  • Updating units featuring current political events in Europe

  • Preparation of teaching materials for using the textbook in the classroom

  • "Beta-testing" textbook in early phases, for use in the classroom

  • Adaptation of undergraduate materials for a Graduate level reading course
     

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

Assistant Director

Summer Work Program. German Department, Princeton University.  September 2019 - present; September 2013 – September 2017

The Summer Work Program arranges summer internships in Germany for Princeton undergraduates. Responsibilities include:

  • Creation of new intership opportunities through collaborations with German universities, government agencies, non-profits and companies

  • Career counseling and academic advising

  • Coordination with departmental and University programs

  • Data management, account management and budget oversight

  • Immigration, insurance, travel and housing

  • Liaison with partners and third-party vendors

  • Organizing receptions, recruitment events and information sessions

  • Placement of applicants with host organizations

  • Proficiency in Princeton University's administrative software applications

  • Promotional materials including brochures, posters, presentations and website

Academic administrator. German Department, Princeton University. Academic Year 2016 - 2017

Conducted language evaluations for graduate students applying for the Fulbright and DAAD Fellowships.  As German Department liaison for the Princeton Program in Teacher Preparation, I evaluated High School students applying for enrollment in German courses at Princeton University.
